La Mucada

During the first weeks of August, Sineu celebrates its summer festivals in honour of the Virgin of August. These festivals have a wide range of cultural activities, street parties and folklore. In recent years, La Mucada stands out, one of the most eagerly awaited and popular neo-festivals in Pla de Mallorca, which is celebrated on the first Monday before 15 August, a festival based on the character of the legend Lo Much de Reig.

Legend has it that if someone turns around three times in a row with olive oil in their mouth, the ritual is fulfilled, a bull will come out of the cave and lead the lucky person to the treasure. Pink is the official colour of the festival. One of the main events is the procession of the meeting between the Muc and the Muca in the Plaza des Fossar. The main characteristic of this festival is humour, as popular festivals, people and even common situations are parodied, making it the most eclectic and geeky festival on the whole island.
