Fira de s’Oliva (Olive Fair)

The olive tree, one of the most characteristic trees of the Mediterranean, is part of the landscape of Mallorca. In the town of Caimari, the production of olive oil is one of the most traditional and deep-rooted activities of the town, so it is not surprising that the Fira de s’Oliva takes place on the third Saturday and Sunday of November, a thematic fair dedicated to this star product. It should be noted that it is one of the most successful annual fairs in Mallorca. On the one hand, because it revolves around one of the typical products of island gastronomy, olive oil, and on the other, because the mild temperatures of autumn and the relaxation that comes with the end of the tourist season allow residents and visitors to enjoy the traditions and products of the land in peace.
During the Fira de s’Oliva, the centre of Caimari is filled with stalls displaying and selling all kinds of local and handicraft products, especially all those creations related to the star of the fair. You can find pansida olives, black olives, trencades (split olives); bread and cakes containing olives; all kinds of local olive oil, as well as oil from other places in Mallorca that also have the protected designation of origin “Oli de Mallorca” (Mallorca Oil); and, of course, handicrafts made from olive wood. Other local and traditional products, such as honey, almonds, sausages and pickles, also attract the interest and the palates of visitors.
In addition, throughout the fair you can visit the old Caimari oil mill in Cas Manescal, a great opportunity to learn about the traditional method used for the extraction and production of oil.
A wide and innovative programme of events accompanies the entire fair.
