Sa Fira (Fair), Sineu

Sa Fira is the oldest in Mallorca (it was established by privilege of King Sancho I in the year 1318), which is held annually on the first Sunday of May; an eminently agricultural, livestock and craft fair that has very well preserved the tradition and meaning of the annual extraordinary market. Every year the situation of the stalls that exhibit products of all kinds is maintained: fruit, vegetables, plants and clothes in the Plaça de l’Església and on Carrer Major; poultry on the steps of Sant Marc: chairs, stepladders and pots further down; trinxets and saddles in the alley of the rectory. The livestock occupies the entire Plaça del Mercat. There are usually animal shows and exhibitions of agricultural machinery and cars.

Sa Fira Sineu is the capital of the spring fairs. It is the town that attracts the most visitors to its fair. “Sa Fira” in Sineu is the oldest in Mallorca, it was established by privilege of King Sancho in the year 1318; it is held on the first Sunday of May each year. An eminently agricultural, livestock and artisanal fair, which has preserved very well the tradition and sense of the annual market. Fruits, vegetables, plants, domestic animals, clothes, chairs, stairs, ceramics, and trenches fill the most central streets of the Villa. Agricultural machinery and the car exhibition, along with children’s attractions and various types of street vendors fill the outer streets and squares. It is estimated that tens of thousands of visitors pass through Sineu every year on Feria Day, which is the second most important on the island, after Dijous Bo in Inca.
