The city of Palma has been celebrating the patron saint festivities of San Sebastián since the 17th century. The programme of events, organised by the City Council, usually begins on the previous Saturday with a parade and the reading of the proclamation of the festivities.

The most popular event of the festivities is the San Sebastián festival, which is celebrated on the 19th of January with bonfires and musical performances in various squares in the centre of Palma.

On the 20th of January, the day of San Sebastián, in the morning the solemn Mass of San Sebastián is celebrated in the Cathedral, at midday the Diada Ciclista takes place and in the evening the ceremony of the “Premis Ciutat de Palma” is celebrated.

The programme of events, which can be consulted annually on the website of the City Council of Palma, includes many other activities, such as the pyromusical show “Atiarfoc”, concerts and theatre performances, exhibitions, a photography marathon and the traditional procession of “Beneïdes de Sant Antoni”.
