Sant Honorat, Algaida

In mid-January, Algaida celebrates the patron saint festivities of Sant Honorat with a varied programme of cultural and traditional events, including the Sant Honorat street party and the dances of the Cossiers.

The Sant Honorat street party begins on the afternoon of the 15th with a parade by the Banda de Música d’Algaida and the cabezudos. At night, bonfires are lit in the square with “torrada” and wine for everyone, music by “xeremiers” and “correfoc”.

On the following day, the 16th, the feast of Sant Honorat, in the morning the festive mass is celebrated with the participation of the Orfeó de Castellitx and the dance of the Oferta dels Cossiers. The Cossiers also dance in the Plaça, at the end of the mass.

The dance of the Cossiers is a popular dance of very ancient origin that is preserved in Algaida and in some other towns in Mallorca. The Cossiers, six men and a lady accompanied by the devil, dance to the tunes played by the fabiolers and the xeremier.

On the 16th, the activities move to Pina and Randa, where the Sant Antoni festival is held, and the following day, the 17th, in Pina, the traditional procession of floats and blessing of animals takes place.
